Learn how to securely access your Ledger Live application and protect your cryptocurrency assets with hardware-level security.
Unlike traditional software wallets, Ledger Live doesn't use passwords or biometric authentication. Your security is provided by your physical Ledger hardware wallet device.
Ledger Live never stores passwords or private keys on your computer or mobile device. All authentication happens through your physical Ledger hardware wallet, providing maximum security against malware and hackers.
Connect your Ledger device via USB or Bluetooth to access your accounts and perform transactions.
View your portfolio and transaction history without connecting your device (no transactions allowed).
Use Ledger Live Mobile with Bluetooth connectivity (Nano X) for on-the-go access.
Open the Ledger Live application on your desktop or mobile device. The app will start in read-only mode, showing your portfolio balance without requiring device connection.
When you need to perform transactions (sending crypto, staking, swapping), connect your Ledger device:
Your Ledger device will prompt you to enter your 4-8 digit PIN code using the device buttons. The PIN entry is randomized for security.
Ledger Live will detect your device and show a connected status. You can now access all features including sending transactions and managing accounts.
All sensitive actions require physical verification on your Ledger device screen. Always verify addresses and transaction details on your device before confirming.
Use a strong 8-digit PIN that's difficult to guess. Never use simple sequences or personal information. The randomized PIN entry prevents keyloggers from capturing your PIN.
Your 24-word recovery phrase is your master key. Store it offline in multiple secure locations. Never digitalize, share, or store it in cloud services.
Always verify receiving and sending addresses on your Ledger device screen. This prevents malware from substituting malicious addresses.
Keep your Ledger device firmware updated. Regular updates include security patches and new features. Use Ledger Live's Manager to install updates.
Verify your Ledger device is genuine during setup. Only purchase from official Ledger website or authorized resellers to avoid tampered devices.
Use Ledger Live on a secure computer with updated antivirus software. Avoid public computers and untrusted networks for crypto transactions.

Solution: Try a different USB cable and port. Ensure Ledger Live is closed during connection. On Windows, install Ledger Live as administrator. Check if other applications are accessing the device.
Solution: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both devices. Restart Bluetooth services. Make sure your Nano X is charged. Remove old pairings and reconnect. Update Ledger Live Mobile to latest version.
Solution: The PIN entry is randomized for security. Follow the on-screen layout on your Ledger device, not a fixed pattern. If you've forgotten your PIN, you'll need to reset the device using your recovery phrase.
Solution: Close and restart Ledger Live. Ensure you have the latest version installed. Check system requirements. On mobile, clear app cache or reinstall the application.
Solution: Install Ledger Live as administrator. Use Windows Update for driver installation. Alternatively, manually install the Windows USB driver from Ledger's website.
Solution: Check internet connection. Disable VPN or proxy temporarily. Ensure firewall isn't blocking Ledger Live. Try using a different network connection.
Ledger will never ask for your 24-word recovery phrase. Never enter your recovery phrase anywhere except on your Ledger device during recovery. Beware of phishing websites and fake support agents asking for your recovery phrase.
